Chairman  Claire Sheldrake 01278 723232 csheldrake@aol.com

I came to horses quite late in life, having begged and borrowed other people's ponies as a teenager. I never showed much promise on a horse....., being of a nervous disposition and sadly, style and finesse were a little thin on the ground. But it was something in me, and it just wouldn't go away, and soon I realised that nothing else hit the mark. To my husbands horror, it was always my ambition to own my dream horse one day.

After a few disasterous choices, I have found just the fella, some of you may already know him, his name is Cracker and he is very special. He is not everyone's cup of tea, but he is larger than life in character, feathers and girth size....! He has allowed me to build my confidence, and now I am able to enjoy all the riding club activities, and I know we're not competing at any great level, but we have a lot of fun, he puts a real smile on my face, and when I'm riding him, he makes me feel like I'm 15 again. I have been with the club since the beginning.

I have ridden since a child but have only been lucky enough to own horses for the last 8 years. I have a Grey 15hh Cob called Reg who’s a smart chap but a bit of a cowardy custard - bit like his mum! - but we’ve gone from strength to strength in the 6 years I’ve had him.  We do a bit of jumping and a bit of dressage and a lot of hacking!

Within the club I organise the Lessons and Camp as well as being the Club Treasurer.

I have been riding for around 19 yrs & have owned horses for the last 11 of those. Currently working part time, riding horses part time and training for Msc Animal Manipulation at the McTimoney College in Oxford,(now fully qualified!!) as well as trying to run 2 horses. Own 6 yr old warmblood cross who is being brought on & 12 year old Eventer. Have enjoyed competing at BD, BSJA, Team Chasing, but passion is for Eventing - currently in second season with BE with current horse after a fantastic first season! Have had a go at polo, western riding & carriage driving - my motto, 'will try anything once'!!

I have been riding for about 18 years, starting off in Pony Club. I try to compete in as many of our club events as possible, this sometimes proves difficult as I own and run Sedgemoor Animal Feed Shop near Bridgwater so can be found there every day!

I seem to be the more accident prone member of the committee.................

I have had Frodo for 6 years and buying him was the best thing I ever did! We have competed in Endurance, Mini ODE's and Hunter Trials, Dressage and TREC (Immobility being our best obstacle but that wont surprise those of you who know him!). Frodo doesn't do anything with any enthusiasm or speed (except laying down sleeping...) but we understand each other completely! This is my fourth year on the committee.

I have been riding for over 30 years now and have a very varied background with horses. I was in the flat racing industry as a teenager being an apprentice with Henry Cecil in Newmarket but unfortunately, injury stopped me carrying on. I also have a successful Pony Club background and have also enjoyed being part of the Pantomine at Olympia when a teenager which was great fun!

This is my 3rd year being on the committee since moving from London. I came to Somerset to be with my partner to start a new life; so brought my horse with me who is called Olanta. Olanta is 13 years old - KWPN 16.1hh (mare). I enjoy doing everything with my horse from Dressage, Showjumping, Cross Country and even TREC. We are going to try our 1st ODE together in the spring. I may not be the neatest of riders, but I am brave and also like to try anything once.

I decided to put myself forward to join the committee as I wanted to make new friends and keep myself busy as I was on a RC Committee when back in London. It's very lonely moving so far away and not knowing many people............so hopefully i'll get to know everyone over the coming years!

Within the club I organise the simulated cross country and cross country lessons along with the combined training competition. I am also in charge of the voucher scheme.

I was brought up in London, the daughter of non-horsey parents and I have no idea where my love of horses came from.  Since the first moment I saw riding school horses pass my house, I’ve been totally gripped.

We moved to Somerset when I was 12 and a year later my parents bought me Prince.  I lived the dream for four years until my hormones took a hold and I discovered parties, clothes and boys.  Not an uncommon turn of events.

My love of horses never left me but due to lack of finances, I couldn’t contemplate owning again – until nine years ago. Through a local riding school, I loaned the recently arrived Ruby and I soon formed a huge attachment to this beautiful, 15 hh, strong-willed, feisty cob and before I knew it, I became a horse owner again and I haven’t looked back since!!  Now a ‘mature’ (like a good cheese/bottle of wine) rider, I’m having the best time of my life!!

Five years later, I purchased Gilvarry (Gil), a youngster from Ireland and from the start, we had serious problems.  Following a very traumatic year for both of us, we finally clicked and formed a very close bond.  We enjoy jumping and dressage and our goal for this year is for me to improve my jumping position and Gil to take dressage more seriously!!

Ruby is still with me but is now all but owned by Kathryn Cresswell (another club member), who is the best ‘mum’ Ruby could have.  Kathryn is an excellent rider; very firm but incredibly kind and they have a fantastic relationship.  I couldn’t be happier!

I’ve been with P&BRC for two years and a Committee Member for almost a year.  I have recently taken on the Club PR/Marketing role and love it! (and now membership as well!)

I’ve been with P&BRC since 2010 I have been riding since the age of 12 but I was never lucky enough to own my own horse until 2009 when I bought Flight. Flight is a Cleveland Bay X Thoroughbred, he is my baby and I love him to bits.

Even though I have been riding for a long time, my confidence is not the greatest. After all, at my age I don’t bounce that well anymore and do a better “Splat”! When I bought Flight I said I will never ever jump. Only I found out that Flight loves jumping. So I took lessons again and Flight has helped me to build my confidence back up and now I enjoy competing in various events but my favourite's are Cross Country and Show Jumping. We don’t jump high and not with amazing style but Flighty and me are having a fantastic time.

I only just joined as a committee member and don't have a specific role yet but please feel free to contact me if you have any questions and I will try my best to answer them.

Dressage Organiser Cheryl Carlton cherylcarlton@hotmail.co.uk

I moved to Bridgwater just over a year ago to take over "The Admirals table". Bringing with me my lovely but very quirky ex-racehorse, Breeze, who I have had for three years. It's been a lot of hard work but last year we finally (with the help of lots of good friends) started going out to some competitions and had some really good results. We had great success at Dressage, apart from one 'flying lesson' which we wont be putting into our free style! Our jumping is coming along too. I am looking forward to trying out more this year. I have been a member with the club for a year and have just joined the committee. Looking forward to getting stuck in!
